When traveling to and from the mountains you have a great, boutique caffeine option. Located at the Charthouse exit, #254 on I-70, is the Buffalo Moon Coffee and Mercantile.
They have all the coffees, teas, espressos, cappuccinos, hot chocolate, steamers & Italian sodas you’re used to seeing but they also offer a satisfying meal for dine in or to take along. Some of the morning favorites are the Breakfast Burrito ($5.50), Egg Sandwich (about $5) served on a fresh bagel and their bagel and lox. I spoke with regular diner Michael McGoldrick who comes in once a week for the bagel and lox ($7). He orders his on their cranberry walnut bagel with cream cheese & capers. Breakfast or lunch, that’s what he’s craving.
For lunch they offer a variety of Bagel Sandwiches ($6), Burritos ($5.50), Croissant Sandwiches ($5) and lettuce wraps ($6). I had their very satisfying Vegetarian Burrito, smothered in organic green chili sauce ($6.50). The Buffalo Moon is happy to customize your order to accommodate your dietary needs. Carbs killing your waistline? Make it a wrap. Add or take away the meat, however preferred. Or, if you’re especially hungry you can double the meat or cheese for only one dollar. People rave about the Buffalo Moon’s secret recipe Moon Sauce for dipping your sandwich or chips
Tuesday through Sunday the Buffalo Moon offers lunch specials that range from Salads to Soups and Asian Fusion, the most popular being the Thai Chicken Curry. Prices vary but average $7.50 to $9
The Buffalo Moon is also known for their sweets. Their Cakes ($2.50) are homemade and fly off the shelves. Their Danishes ($2.25) are actually made by bakers trained by people in Denmark. If you’re just craving something simpler they keep fresh bananas and oranges on hand as well. While picking up breakfast, lunch or something to keep you awake browse their gift shop. They have a tasteful selection of cards and gifts.
